● Reasons for selection

Professor Tetiana Bogdanova is a specialist in the field of endocrine pathology whose research has focused particularly on the problems of radiation-induced thyroid cancer. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer in children and adolescents who were exposed to radiation as a result of the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

Professor Bogdanova has studied the pathological characteristics of subjects who developed thyroid cancer as a result of radiation exposure following the Chernobyl accident in great detail. She has also conducted many surveys with other scientists.

Professor Bogdanova actively participated in the creation of the International Chernobyl Tissue Bank and played a leading role for the foundation in Ukraine. She was also instrumental in establishing the sample collection and pathological archive for thyroid cancer.

Furthermore, Professor Bogdanova has participated in many joint international projects with colleagues in the EU, USA, Germany and Japan, and she has presented her research at domestic and international congresses and conferences.

Professor Bogdanova is held in high esteem as a scientific leader and has thus been selected as the recipient for this prize.
