Application Guidelines for Doctor Trainees and Delegates

Mission of the Project

The Nagasaki Association for Hibakushas’ Medical Care (NASHIM) conducts delegate and training programs for doctors and other medical professionals to provide instruction, technical assistance, and medical information to medical professionals involved in the treatment and health care of radiation exposure victims around the world using Nagasaki’ s wealth of medical achievements toward atomic bomb survivors and research on radiation damage.

Original Trainee and Delegate Projects

NASHIM conducts original doctor trainee and delegate programs for doctor trainee programs and specialist delegate applications it deems particularly important.

NASHIM works with the national government and other relevant agencies on doctor trainee and delegate projects.

Trainee and Delegate Liaison Project

We act as a liaison between doctors and relevant organizations based on trainee programs for foreign doctors and applications for delegations of doctors from Japan overseas and conduct efficient training for this.

Eligibility Requirements

The following requirements must be met to be eligible for the doctor trainee program or specialist delegation
program.

  • As a general rule, the application must be made by an international organization, foreign national or local government, medical association, or equivalent public agency through a public agency in Japan.
  • For the Doctor Trainee Program in Japan
  • The person applying for training is a doctor or other medical professional engaged in the treatment and health care of radiation exposure victims.
  • Doctors or other medical professionals who wish to undergo long-term training (2 weeks or more) must possess sufficient English ability to undergo training efficiently and smoothly.
  • The purpose of undergoing training is primarily to acquire knowledge and skills related to the treatment and health care of radiation exposure victims.
  • For the doctor delegation project, the purpose is primarily to provide technical training on treatment and health care of radiation exposure victims in the country of destination.

Application Procedures

  • Doctors and other medical professionals who wish to undergo training in Japan are asked to fill out the “Application Form for Radiation Exposure Victim Health Care Trainees” .
  • Doctors and other medical professionals who wish to participate in the specialist dispatch program are asked to fill out the “Application Form for Radiation Exposure Victim Health Care Specialists Delegates” .
  • As a general rule, applications received by September 30th will be considered for trainee and delegate programs in the following year.

Expenses for Doctor Trainees in Japan

  • NASHIM will, upon consultation with relevant agencies, bear the costs below deemed necessary when NASHIM conducts original doctor trainee programs.
  • Airfare, relocation allowance, accommodation, domestic fare, training travel fare, textbook fees, material shipment fees
  • The amount borne by NASHIM for joint programs will be decided upon consultation with the participating organization.
  • When NASHIM serves as a liaison, NASHIM will, as a general rule, not bear the costs of the project.

Expenses for Specialist Delegates

NASHIM will, upon consultation with relevant agencies, bear the costs below deemed necessary when NASHIM conducts original specialist delegate programs.
